Vster and I headed down Gutshot yesterday for the £20 NL Tourney and came 28th and 24th respectively out of 85 runners.
Gutshot have added a massive new Tournament area in the building next door! – Very comfortable and holding about 20 tables!
We should pick a Monday or Friday when we can leave early (at 1) and all head down there for a tournament. Would be great fun.
Let me know if interested.
Cheers

MuddyWicket sent in this No Limit tourney hand for analysis.
I looked at this and straight away called him a mug for calling a raise with 53o. But was he right to do so?

Most of the poker players avoid drinking while they play – unless there's an angle to be exploited:
"If there's a fish who only starts drinking if someone else does, …… I'll start drinking with them. And as they get drunk ….."
- Antonio Esfandiari
"When I have to put my money out there, my money's out there. Everybody knows that …… So if you want to mess with me, it's going to cost you …. You have to be willing to die in order to live in these tournaments ….. That's basically it."
- Amir Vahedi
No Tips today, however I have some beauties for Heads-Up play on Monday and Tuesday
Have a good weekend all and Happy Punting !

The last few tournaments I've played, I have made no particularly silly plays or played any different than I normally do. However, the last few (about 6 now!) simply haven't gone my way. When I call with suited connectors I hit nothing, when I'm calling good odds with my flush and straight draws .. I hit nothing.
Some days you are unstoppable and everything is running your way. Other days nothing you do turns out right and you feel as if everyone and everything is against you. However, you never know what's round the corner …. one quick win of a tournie and we're back up and running to where we started again. Life will deal all sorts of hands to you, and just when you think you've got it sussed out….yours chips will be disappearing. Similarly, you may feel at the lowest of the low and suddenly the cards will start to run good for you again. Make the most of these opportunities and you can start to build your chips back up in life. "What's the meaning of Life?" – all the religious types keep asking. Surely it's a very simple answer: "Fun"
If you're not having fun, then you're probably sitting at the wrong table. Get up, move to a new one, find a good seat and profit on life.
Thanks

Paying attention to your table is critical, whether playing a cash game or a tournie. It comes in especially useful when nearing an "inflection point" (only having ten times the big blind) and you need to pick up some chips. We had noticed that a guy called Mike0204 or something was a conservative playing chap. Not to mention the fact that he was chatting away in the chat box criticising "reckless" plays by some of the more aggressive players. We had labelled him "all mouth and no chips!" hehe. (there were 6 players left and Mike had a similar chip count to us.)
Mike0204 was on the big blind, we were first to act and looked down to 5-3 offsuit, not normally a cranking hand, however seeing as it was Mike's BB he would have to have a good hand to call and chances are that he won't – We went all in and no-one called. (the other players on the table were also tightening up!)
Not particularly eventful, however, just shows that with a bit of watching and working out player style you can pick up some much needed blinds.
Thanks

When you wander over to a cash table and there are a few seats available, should you just park your back-side on the first available seat? Does it matter?! .. Do I wear silly shirts!? (ask a silly question……….)
You want to attempt to gauge the players as you walk to the table (preferably you've been watching it!) and find out who is aggressive and who are the rocks. You can tell a lot by how people are dressed and how they stack their chips. Once you have this info you generally want the aggressive players on your right and the tight rocks on your left. When the maniac comes into the pot, you will reraise and "isolate" him from the tight rocks, who will likely fold to your double sized bet. You'll play for pots heads-up, in superior position, and – assuming you're not a maniac yourself when it comes to hand selection – usually with a hand that's favourite to win.
Now look at it the other way round with the tight rocks on your right and the maniac on your left. Every time you enter the pot, the maniac raises or reraises, while the rocks – who are no stranger to the isolation strategy – won't be afraid to reraise. Now it's you who will be facing a double raise, often out of position. Change your seat, even it means leaving the game!
